When a gas engineer works on a gas pipe which needs to be cut unto or removed from services, firstly the pipe much be ‘purged’. This process is carried out to remove the potentially hazardous gas from the line. This is done by injecting an inert gas into the pipe which then mixes with the harmful gas thus rendering the gas harmless.
After pipes have been cleared of harmful gases, we then carry out further safety checks using specialist equipment to ensure that there are no pockets of gas left in the line.
JWC Plumbing and Heating are fully trained, and Gas Safe registered experts and have the ability to carry out gas purges and test on commercial, industrial and plant gas lines whilst always following safety guidelines.
There are a number of tightness tests and strength tests that must be carried out on new commercial gas line installations or additional extensions to existing commercial gas line installations.
Tightness tests are carried out to ensure that a commercial or industrial gas line is safe for us and does not pose a potential hazard when in operation. All testing on new commercial or industrial pipelines are carried out at operating pressure. These tests are carried out to ensure that all the pipework is nominally gas tight. On existing commercial or industrial gas lines, testing is carried out to ensure the pipe work is gas tight and within acceptable defined limits.
A smell of gas or if gas is detected would mean a fail in the test and the leak would need to be traced and repaired even in the event that the test results deemed it to be safe.
All the pipework should be annually inspected by a commercial Gas Safe gas engineer to ensure that the commercial gas installation is monitored and maintained in a safe manner, as is detailed in The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 Act. We can usually carry out these annual checks at the same time as your annual gas appliance service visit.
Our team of highly skilled, industrial and commercial gas engineers in Liverpool are fully insured, accredited and trained to the highest standards, giving them the ability to carry out the above tests with ease and to ensure that the work is carried out to the highest level of industry standards.
Our Liverpool based team of commercial gas engineers will carry out a fully survey of the gas installation pipework, once we are satisfied that we have all the relevant and correct information that is required to carry out these tasks, and that all the necessary risks have been evaluated will we then proceed with the testing.
